Princess Caroline 'to divorce third husband', reigniting fears of a Monaco royal curse

Princess Caroline of was said to be about to divorce - leading to claims that a 700-year-old curse on her family had struck again.

Reports in say that the third marriage of 's eldest daughter is all but over. The 52-year-old is living a separate life from her husband Prince Ernst of Hanover, 55.

'It looks like the end,' said a source at French magazine Point de Vue, which specialises in European royal families.


'Both Caroline and Ernst have been at the centre of scandals in the past, but this really is breaking their hearts.'

The split after ten years of marriage is the latest to afflict the Grimaldis, the name of Monaco's royal family.

Local superstition says a 13th century witch cursed them, warning none would have a long or successful marriage.


Caroline, who has not been seen with Ernst since early June, has left the family chateau in Fountainbleau, south of , to return to Monaco. She divorced her first husband and her second died in a boating accident.

Her sister Stephanie married a bodyguard, whom she divorced before marrying and divorcing a circus acrobat.

Caroline's mother, Princess Grace - former film star Miss Kelly - was killed in a car crash, leaving her devoted husband, the late Prince Rainier III, distraught.
